Product Overview

The DPU‑MR is Metso DNA high‑availability redundant distributed processing unit. It executes real‑time process control logic, manages local I/O racks, and exchanges process data with DCS operator stations and engineering workstation. The MR suffix supports hot‑standby redundant configuration: standby module keeps full synchronization with active master, achieves bumpless automatic switch‑over when master hardware or communication fault occurs, minimizing process downtime. It connects to DNA series analog / digital I/O modules via internal rack backplane, and communicates with external instruments over Modbus‑RTU. Built‑in comprehensive diagnostics capture module faults and communication errors for fast on‑site troubleshooting in pulp‑and‑paper, mining and power‑plant heavy‑EMI cabinet environments.

This controller addresses high‑reliability distributed‑control challenges: hot‑standby redundant architecture for critical process loops, decentralized local logic execution reducing main system load, drop‑in spare‑part compatibility for legacy Metso‑DNA retrofit‑maintenance projects. Process‑automation engineers, pulp‑paper & mining‑plant maintenance technicians and retrofit integrators benefit most. Typical applications: paper‑machine process control, mineral‑processing plant distributed‑I/O control cabinets, power‑plant auxiliary safety‑related control loops.

Key Application Notes

‑Rack‑mount DCS controller; cannot operate standalone. Requires Metso‑DNA base rack, matching I/O modules and DNA engineering software for logic download and parameter configuration. ‑For full redundancy function, two DPU‑MR modules must be paired and configured as master‑standby set. ‑Not hot‑swap capable: rack 24 VDC power must be fully de‑energized before module replacement. ‑Original OEM production discontinued; only aftermarket surplus/refurbished spare parts available. ‑Conformal‑coated PCB variant exists for high‑humidity and corrosive cabinet environments. ‑Follow Metso DPU‑MR hardware manual for redundancy setup, backplane bus address configuration and firmware upgrade procedure.
